CBD Oil Dosage
The first thing the new customers always look for is what the perfect CBD Oil dosage is.
It’s a common question, yet not easy to answer. The fact that people use CBD for different kinds of disorders means that there’s not a dosage that everyone should follow. Factors like age, weight, sex and medical conditions must also be considered, especially if you’re taking other medications too.
To find the ideal CBD Oil Dosage might require a bit of experimenting. With this in mind, the range of the most common CBD Oil Dosage that people take is somewhat consistent.
The good news is that CBD is totally safe and you cannot overdose! Furthermore, it only has very minimal side effects.
How much CBD Oil Should I Take?
Generally, you should start small with your CBD oil dosage and you can slowly move up from there. Majority of the long time users of the CBD may find that a dose from 2-3 drops taken 1-2 times daily should be enough to provide you with an efficient effect of Cannabidiol. Most of the patients simply take one dose in the morning and another dose 12 hours later. In any way, you may want to start with a small CBD Oil Dosage.
Many people who take the CBD for depression or anxiety treatment tend to start with a simple and initial dose of only 1 mg.
We advise our customers to start out with a relatively small dosage of CBD oil 1-2 drops to find out how you personally react to the Cannabidiol. From here you can gradually build up the dose to 2-3 drops 1-2 times a day.
When administering the drops below your tongue, you need to hold them there for 60 to 90 seconds. This is in order to allow for full absorption of the oil before you swallow.
Dosage For CBD Oil
We advise also to keep an eye on how long the effects of the CBD will actually last. Taking a single dose daily might be more than enough to provide you with relief. Thus, you no longer need to take another dose in the evening or afternoon.
I’d advise using the least amount of CBD oil possible as it will eliminate the need for a slight possibility of working up a tolerance for the compound. However, the CBD is generally regarded as less prone to tolerance compared to THC.
How To Take CBD Oil?
Most of the users prefer to administer it by placing it under the tongue (sublingual method) using a dropper or a spray. This is the most effective method because CBD is directly absorbed into the bloodstream.
If you are vaping the CBD, you need to ensure that you’re actually using the product that has been produced for inhalation. Sublingual CBD tinctures are produced in a different way and may contain certain compounds that are not supposed to be inhaled.
If you prefer to place the CBD tincture below your tongue, they will be directly absorbed into the blood through a tissue. The digestive route will be entirely bypassed, which is contrary to what many think when it comes to oral ingestion.
We will mostly talk about CBD dosing through sublingual drops. As mentioned, this method is the most commonly used method for administering CBD oil. Either way, when we talk about the best CBD oil dosage we’re referring to milligrams.
How Much CBD Is In A Single Drop?
Most of the CBD oil tinctures are sold in dropper bottles. Every CBD label must tell you how many per mg are in every drop. However, CBD oil is also available in various concentrations and sizes. As a general reference, one drop of the CBD is roughly equivalent to 0.05 ml. So, if you’re going to use a 15ml with 100 mg of CBD as an example, taking 20 mg of the oil will provide you with a 7 mg dose of the CBD oil.
However, if you’re using a highly concentrated CBD product, 20 drops will be equivalent to 1 ml and this is already equivalent to a 50 mg dose of the CBD.
Important Dosage Considerations
The best CBD dosage generally depends on the following factors.
- Concentration: Concentration, or strength, refers to the total amount of CBD in a given product. Concentration is measured in milligrams (mg). This is different from dosage, which indicates the amount of CBD per serving. For instance, let’s say a bottle of CBD tincture has a concentration of 1500 mg and contains 30 milliliters (mL) of tincture, with 1 mL as the standard serving size. This means each 1-mL serving will contain approximately 50 mg of CBD; the consumer is not ingesting 1500 mg with each dosage.
- Weight: A person’s weight plays a role in how CBD affects the body. Generally speaking, heavier people need higher doses to experience the calming effects of CBD and vice versa.
- Desired effects: For many, the optimal dose comes down to the level of pain or discomfort they are experiencing. Someone with chronic pain or severe anxiety may need a higher dose to alleviate their symptoms, whereas a person with a milder condition may prefer a lower dose with less pronounced effects.
- Tolerance: CBD consumers may develop a tolerance over time, which can result in reduced effects from the same dosage. Higher subsequent doses may be needed to achieve the desired results.
First-time CBD users should be able to determine a good starting dosage based on the criteria above.
Calculating the Best Dosage
The table below breaks down starting doses based on body weight and effect level.
Weight Group | Recommended Dosage For Mild Effects | Recommended Dosage For Moderate Effects | Recommended Dosage For Strong Effects |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight <60 kg | 11 mg or less | 12 mg to 14 mg | 15 mg to 17 mg |
Medium 60 − 100 kg | 18 mg or less | 19 mg to 23 mg | 24 mg to 27 mg |
Heavy >100 kg | 23 mg or less | 24 mg to 30 mg | 31 mg to 45 mg |
Can You Overdose on CBD?
CBD is considered non-toxic and the chemical produces very few side effects which, when they occur, are typically minor and non-threatening. Furthermore, a recent report by the National Cancer Institute – a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – notes that overdosing on CBD is virtually impossible, and the same is true of THC and marijuana.
Per the report: “Because cannabinoid receptors, unlike opioid receptors, are not located in the brainstem areas controlling respiration, lethal overdoses from Cannabis and cannabinoids do not occur.”
The report also goes on to note that cannabinoids are considered much less addictive than other drugs, including prescription medications – though CBD consumers do develop a tolerance over time. CBD withdrawal symptoms may include insomnia, hot flashes, and nausea, but these symptoms are mild compared to withdrawal symptoms from other addictive substances.
A 2018 report from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) noted a spike in adverse reactions from CBD consumers in the state of Utah. A total of 52 cases were investigated. In many cases, the adverse reactions were linked to synthetically produced CBD products and/or products from brands that did not disclose ingredients or manufacturer information.
CBD consumers can protect themselves by only purchasing products from brands that provide third-party testing results, product ingredients, and information about the manufacturing process. We also urge consumers to refrain from using CBD products with synthetic components, as these have been linked to more cases of adverse effects; all-natural CBD products are widely available.
